How can I get a library card?
Dover Public Library cards are available to anyone who lives, works, or owns property in Delaware.
A photo identification with a current Delaware address must be presented in order to obtain a library card.
A library customer must bring his/her valid library card to the library to borrow library resources as well as to use library computer workstations.
How long can I borrow items?
Loans for most items are for 14 days and they can be renewed up to 3 times if there are no holds on the items.
Videos and DVDs can be borrowed for 14 days and may not be renewed.
How much are overdue fines?
Overdue fines are .10 per day for juvenile materials and .10 per day for adult and young adult materials.
There is a $1.00 per day late fee for videos and DVDs, up to a maximum fine of $5 per item.
Anyone owing the library $5.00 or over cannot check out library materials or use the computers until an amount is paid so that the total amount owed is under $5.
Do you have access to the Internet? How about word processing software?
Yes. There are 17 computers available in the Adult Services Department with access to the Internet and to Microsoft products including Word, Power Point, and more.
Patrons wishing to use the computers must scan their library card at the Computer Sign-In station.
Patrons owing the library $5 or more cannot use the computers until an amount is paid so that the total amount owed is under $5.
There are computers with Internet access for children ages 12 and under in the Children's Services Department.
There is also a computer especially for young children, loaded with educational software. Children wishing to use the computers must have a library card.

A library customer may use a library computer up to 75 minutes per person, per day.
When is the library open?
Monday through Thursday from 9 AM until 9 PM, Friday and Saturday from 9 AM until 5 PM, and Sunday from 1 PM until 5 PM.
Computers are not available for use fifteen minutes before the building closes. A half hour before closing, patrons must exit
the Adult Meeting Room, the Delaware Room, the Quiet Study Room (which includes the microfilm reader) and the downstairs lobby.

You do not own a book that I need. Are you able to borrow it from another library?
Your Dover Public Library works with the entire "Library Community."
Please contact Dianne Ridgeway at dridge@lib.de.us or at 736-7031 in order to request that we obtain a book via interlibrary loan.
Please provide Dianne with the name of the book, the author, your library card number, and whether or not there is a date when you will no longer need the book.
Do you have a meeting room available?
The Adult Meeting Room is available to non-profit organizations and groups for $15 per session.

Are you open on holidays?
We are open many holidays, but we are closed on New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
