Water Management
 In general, this division of the Department
of Public Works has responsibility for operating and maintaining a system of distribution
lines, storage reservoirs, production wells, and the metering system needed to
deliver and measure an adequate, portable supply of water for residential, commercial,
and industrial users and fire protection within the City's service area. It is
responsible for the following tasks: - Operates, repairs, and maintains
14 deep production wells with a capacity of 10 million gallers per day and an
average daily production of over five million gallons.
- Operates and maintains
a shallow well field with seven production wells with permitted capacity of 4.6
million gallons per day.
- Services, installs, and maintains over 11,050 water
meters.
- Tests and maintains 1,376 fire hydrants.
- Maintains six elevated
storage reserviors with a total capacity of 3.75 million gallons.
- Maintains
over 156 miles of water main.
- Maintains over 11,050 water services in right-of-way.
- Operates one-half of 24-hour on-call service.
- Operates one-half of "Miss
Utility" locate service.
- Assists in snow removal.
- Performs required
testing to meet all state and federal drinking water requirement.
